Xbox 360 has media center extender capabilities but for that you must have a media center pc. Currently I have Windows XP Home and im using windows media connect to stream music. Has anyone seen a windows media center upgrade edition for XP, this way I can stream videos and get a tv tuner card so that I am able to watch tv, record it ans pause.
Any help would be appreciated
thanks

I just bought an HP Pavillion (sp?) desktop that has Media XP on it. Since it's so new, I haven't really played with it much so probably can't answer a lot of questions. It's replacing an ancient (circa '99) desktop that I'd upgraded to XP Pro a few years back. So far, the HP looks the same OS-wise, but I'm sure there are inside goodies I haven't run across yet. (I haven't hooked up my cable to it yet, so a thorough test is a ways off.)

It is very hard to set up and very expensive i have set my xbox 360 up to my media center pc here is a list of things you will need and the price you will have to pay to get them
1 need a pc runing media center and service pack 2 all can be found at microsoft.com
2. tv tuner if you have a desktop get and internal pci card ati makes a good tuner and it comes with a remote for about $125.00
if you have a lap top get the win tv usb adapter tv tuner for about 70 bucks it come with a remote as well.
3. make sure you have a tv with a suporting computer video and audio slot the best thing to have is hdmi but thats very expensive the next best thing is a dvi slot that has hd capability but you will need and audio conection with this as well where as hdmi has both audio and video if you do not have either of those then use vga if your tv dose not have that then use s-video and make sure your computer has an s-video out slot
4. you will need the xbox 360 wifi adapter $100 new $72 used( hard to come by)
5. you will need an linksus brodband a/g router $111 at compusa this is very important becasue your media center pc can only stream video through an a/ conection which runs at 5.24mhz and regular old b/g cant suport video fast enough at 2.45mhz
6. you will need two ethernet cords on to atach from your router to your wall the other ataching the pc to your router
7. media center streaming can not work all via wifi you have to conect your pc to the router and then use wifi for your xbox to the router its the only way it can work trust me i have tried to do it all wireless the technology is just not good enough yet
8. last you will need the media center extender program on your pc wich can also be found at microsoft.com after you get all this then you can stream media center content from your pc to your xbox
after all is said and done it is not worth it one bit it costs to much and its much easier if you just use your pc as your onw PVR the xbox media center extender is a waist of time

lol I have most of that stuff already, you dont really need to have the hdmi slot in your tv, i do but i use component. It seems that you had trouble setting up your connections, i have most of the stuff already. Also, you dont need the wirless adapter, i connect wired. I really dont think its as complex as you describe it. Also, you can stream tv to your xbox...thats why its a media EXTENDER, your dont need to connect it manually to your tv using the dvi, s-video, or hdmi
Anyway, thanks for your help, im probably still gonna end up getting a dell media center with tv tuner cost around $850

XP comes in flavors...
XP Pro
XP Home
XP Media Center Edition
You cant upgrade one to another XP is XP the features you need is in media center edition and install on any PC that will support XP. So you can go out and get Media Center edition of XP and format your box with it.
FUN :)
Also he wont need extra hardware to use the mediacenter PC features on his 360 it just has to be on the same network... And im guessing he has broadband if hes gaming online and some sort of Router and hes on here posting on the forums so he has a PC...
So the inferstructure should all ready be there.
