Gadget for Keeping Pests Away From Your Home

I bought this gadget for keeping pests away from your home. You plug it into the electrical socket, and apparently it's meant to keeps pests away. It doesn't work - at all. I started to get annoyed when I didn't seem to see any reduction in the number of pests in my house. But then I finally removed it from the socket, when I saw that a spider in a web after ten centimetres away from the thing. Are these things actually meant to work?

Is this one of those things where you put in a little "mat"? If it is, you just got to try different brands, i had the same prob.

What type of pests is it supposed to keep away? Bugs or rodants? Ive love to find a nice clean way to get rid of mice. This time of year the field mice come into the house because its gotten so cold out. They drive me nuts when i start to hear it at night. This little chew sound. Ugh!

Well the only way I know to get rid of mice would be:

a) mice traps - disgusting and inhumane. Plus you'll have to empty the traps yourself.

b) poison - most types make the mice thirsty so they will run outside and die there - disgusting

c) cat - more natural, and gives the mice at lease half a chance to not come into the house in the first place.

How does this work? Does it sound out soundwaves? I tried a soundwave one several years ago and had no luck with it.
