Hi Friends,

I do not know if I can post this query of mine here under "computers" section. Since I could not find any other relative section, I am posting it here.

Well, my query is... I recently bought a new with Pentium Dual core processor 80GB, 512 RAM running under Windows XP. The problem is that my USB drive was not recognized by my new PC SOB. I should say that the same USB card was working pretty fine with my old PC for the past few months. Just to ensure that my USB card is not corrupted, I have checked it with one of my friends also. It did work in her system. the 'I' drive opned up when we plugged the USB cable in her system. But everytime I tried this with my new system, it says some error message like "The new USB device has malfunctioned or not recognized" some holy crap :(

I even confirmed that no special drivers are need to be installed if the OS is Windows XP!

Is there any way I can sort this problem out? I would be really happy if some can help me out on this regard.
Many thanks!

That is odd. Have you tried it in multiple USB slots on your computer? Sometimes a single slot might have a problem. Have you tried other USB devices succesfully in the computer?

It may just be a setup problem with the computer as well. I once had a computer with USB issues that stemmed from the motherboard drivers combined with XP.

As triumph says try it in different slots. It's also worth looking on the USB drive manufacturers site and see if it's a known problem (hopefully with a known solution).

Usually, it is due to some USB controller chipset incompatibilities...
If you can find out your USB host chip manufacturer, then go out and get a different chip based USB PCI adapter and that should fix the issue...
