We all know that most of the S60 mobiles developed by Nokia and some other mobiles by Sony Ericsson and other vendors are running under the Symbian Operating System. On the other hand, as we all see the Windows mobile is progressing rapidly. As per one of the recent article I have read it was stating that Microsoft is on its way, rapidly approaching Series 60 in terms of usability and has the advantage of being familiar to regular PC users.

What do you people think? Will there still be a future for Symbian OS? Will Nokia, Sony Ericsson and other such vendors still be supporting Symbian OS models?

I would hope that Symbian OS will survive as it is a great OS. I think it will depend on how much and how fast they develop it. Phone these days do much more than just making calls and are getting to the point where even an average phone can do most functions of a full blown PDA. This is where MS have the advantage as they have a lot of experience in the desktop market and so will be able to easily apply that as phones become essentially portable computers.
