View Full Version : Kitchen Gadget Ideas?

I'm in the process of buying a new house (hoping to complete next week) and the kitchen is a completely empty room, so I've got *permission* to gadgetize it to my hearts consent. I'm thinking flip down LCDs, a kick board that slide open to let my Roomba out, that sort of stuff.

Does anybody else have any other cool or interesting ideas for a new kitchen?

I'm also looking for suppliers that may give me discounts (ideally 100% discounts) in exchange for me writing about their products here and on CG and I will give very honest and frank reviews which will hopefully mean quality products :) So if you know anybody who sells kitchens in the UK (or can deliver) let me know :)

I think an Electrolux Cyber Fridge (formerly the Screenfridge) would make a nice addition! (Of course, the Screenfridge was about $9000...no price yet on the Cyber Fridge!)

Yeah that does look cool, though I would need 2, 1 for beer and 1 for food :)

I just looked up what a Roomba is, cooool! now I want one of those, does it work well?

Yeah flip down LCD's and a cool fridge would be a start.
I'd be tempted to get one of those machines they have in bar's fitted, you know the brush that spins around so you can just clean cups quickly/easily. My dishwasher usually ends up full of cups/mugs/glasses and its a waste to put it on just for that.

Something like this (http://www.globeequipment.com/Catalog/Bar+Supplies/Glass+Washers/BAR!SS100.html).

I bought an extra Airport Express, put it in the kitchen with a set of decent self powered speakers. Breakfast with a podcast, cookings with some music, I love it!

There is this amazing microwave oven that has a barcode reader. This way you can just scan the package of what you want to cook and it will choose the exact time it requires.
Only problem is I can't remember it's name... And it had a great price last time I checked...

That same microwave oven has a whole family of kitchen products that can interconnect with each other. The "master" of the system was a PC that had internet connection to update the cooking times and other stuff. Pretty neat

You should get a fridge with a camera in it so that you can remotely see, from the grocery store, what you need to buy.

I like the idea for Dexter's house. :p He needs his personal space, ya know.

Id like some smart info on microwaveable foods that your microwave can read and udnerstand than take info acount the microwaves wattage because ALL microwaves differ and than set the correct sugested cook time.

That's why the beyond microwave has a barcode scanner. To adjust it's time depending on what you want to cook.

Hrmmm lets see. I would concentrate on the microwave, toaster, coffee pot, stove and fridge. Wow what fun i would have! I would look into a fridge or stove that played music or something to keep me entertained while i was cooking. A kick ass ice machine in the fridge is a MUST. Oh the coffee pot dear lord!! what fun that would be to buy again lol get a grinding one that turns on before you come downstairs!! :)

oh oh make sure the oven is self cleaning!!

Do self cleaning ovens actually work, or are they like non iron shirts that need ironing.

IMO i have never EVER had a good experience with a self cleaning oven. Ive had a positive one but not perfect at one point.

I really like the Oven/fridge idea though ever since i saw that concept design demo i was exreeemly impressed

As a concept the oven fridge sounds like a good idea but I'm not sure about cost and the practicability of it. It must be expensive lowering and raising the temperature all the time (well not all the time but you know what I mean). The again when have gadgets ever been cheap.

Case
08-23-2006, 10:00 PM
Well like all new things and new technoligy its expensive as it becoems adapted and more common the price will come down. How expensive were the first cell phones? now look at them.

Al
08-23-2006, 10:24 PM
It's not the cost of the device I'm thinking of it's the cost of the energy, going from freezing cold to piping hot a few times a day is going to hurt them there fuel bills. Then again it should be solar powered or something.

Case
08-23-2006, 10:31 PM
No if you own a home you should have panels on your roof and if your in a hotspot for wind or a feild put in a mini home turbine... When not using power and your generating power it will actualy make your power meter go in REVERSE and you will get credited on your power bill.. See i see that has a part of the smart phone and not part of the device...

Allthough yea its going to be another refrigerating unit so yes it will pull power unless its a TEC style cooling device than it might be far cheaper.

Do self cleaning ovens actually work, or are they like non iron shirts that need ironing.
We've got one and they work well, it's best to do it overnight though. It heats up to an insane temperature and takes ~ 6 hours.

In the end though, you definitely notice the difference.

Ok, So far we have:
A nice fridge with music and "kickass" ice machine.
Automatic cofee pot that grinds coffee before you wake up.
Microwave oven with auto timing depending on the food.
Self cleaning oven (that actually works...).
I would like to add a kitchen only roomba to clean all the mess you make while cooking.

Oh, yeah sure... All the apliances should have internet connection. This way you can controll them over the web. And better make the connection wireless. Less cabling involved.

Well the oven i linked up thats the idea. If you set the dinner for lets say 7pm but find out at work you will be late you can change it to 8pm and so forth.

You could have a home like Bill Gates
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Gates%27s_house

My favourites:
The floor is heated everywhere including the driveway and walks.
The master bathtub can be filled to the right temperature and depth by Gates as he drives home from work.

Oh my, that's quite the house. :D

Gotta love the music at the bottom of the pool. 7 years to build, the technology put in was old by the time the house was completed. :P
