I've used Google Desktop for ages and have been very pleased with it in the past. However recently it's started hogging a load of CPU time so I've had to End task it. Has anybody heard of such problems and more importantly know a solution.

Maybe Google Desktop is reindexing your computer?

No, it should only index as new pages or documents are found and even then it should do it as a background process. I'm finding it grabbing CPU and not letting go. It might be a conflict with another process I've got going (I'm suspecting the Atensa RSS plugin for Outlook at the moment).

I am currently using Google Desktop on one of my workstation as well. As much as I like Google Desktop to utilise idle resources, but they can be a total nuisance when I want to do some serious work, involving full CPU utilisation.

Furthermore, it is a pain in the neck, especially when it always conflicts with programs involving registry, e.g., installation of Internet Explorer Beta 7 which requires Windows to control the OS. Then Google Desktop becomes like a bug or a pest, clinging on to the Desktop, refusing to allow Windows to take control (primarily because GD indexes the file system, keeping a very tight record).

After saying so much, I have no solution :p
