Speed Bump: Kingston's Ultimate CompactFlash now tops out at 133X and 8GB.

Kingston has announced that the higher capacities in their premium-performance line of CompactFlash cards have been bumped to 133X speeds.

Going forward, the company will offer Ultimate CompactFlash in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB 133X models, as well as a 1GB version rated at 100X as before. All four capacities use a controller from SMI that's capable of PIO Mode 6, which should mean their performance will be in the same general ballpark as comparable-size cards in Ritek/Ridata's 150X series, among others.

All capacities of Kingston Ultimate CompactFlash will be bundled with the Windows-only Ontrack EasyRecovery Professional 6.1 software for recovery of photos. Kingston is planning to include a recovery offering for Mac users too at some point, says Kingston PR representative Scott Heath, though that software hasn't been chosen yet.

The Ultimate 133X CompactFlash cards are beginning to ship now, says Heath, and are already available at some bigger U.S. online electronics retailers, as well as direct from Kingston.

Is that the performance of reading or writing on the CF?

Both Its important to have fast write speeds on cameras because for thoes fast SLR's that take 10 shots a second it needs a place to put it if it does not it slows down drasticaly.

I am a Sandisk fan right now Im shooting on a extreme III head over to here: http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007

He has a GREAT list he tests cameras with the cards and thier write speeds. I shoot mostly with my Cannon 20d and acording to his charts the SanDisk Extreme IV 2GB is the fastest for my camera 6.080MB/sec write speed with RAW files and thats sweet :)

I have been using the SanDisk Extreme III 1GB since i got the camera and its 5.919MB/sec in RAW so im happy with it but i need more space so im goign to buy the 2gb IV i think :)

These new Kingston cards are brand new so they arent on the list yet, cant wait to see how they stack up.

Mind you he only lists SLR's and expensive brands so use it as just a refrence if heh as a smaller compact :)
