I own a DS and I love it. There haven't been many good new games this summer but come fall I'll be playing it much more than I do now.

I've got both, and I never ever ever ever play games on the PSP, just watch videos.

My DS gets used every other day probably, either Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart, or Brain Age. :D

The only PSP game I'd consider buying is Ace Combat X: SOD when it comes out, and I'm looking into getting Animal Crossing.

How about aplications for the consoles? Isn't there already a web brwoser for the DS? And how about the PSP? Does it has any web options?

mario was great! keyword "was". ever since 3d, side scrollers have been dead. if u say that super mario bros on all glorious 8 bits of its color is better than super mario 64 or resident evil 4, u are a confused child. graphics improvements were made for a reason

jacubilloro

Mario is not better than resident evil, it's just different. you can't compare them as they are on completely apart categories.

unless u've been living in a hole for the past 1.75 years or so, you would know that the psp was hacked on the first day it came out to be able to browse the internet. and 2 months after that, sony released an official browser. the ds browser is so slo its unusable. the psp's is comparable to any regular computer, if slightly slower because of its 32 mb of ram. if you wanna talk about functionality, the psp wins in every aspect. go to any psp site
http://www.pspupdate.com
http://www.pspcave.com
or just search psp hack or homebrew on google. you'll find thousands of ways to turn ur psp into wutever u want it to be. that includes a game boy player, n64 player, a bunch of other nintendo emulators, a drum synthesizer, run windows 98, whatever point is, the psp is more functional than the ds will ever b. im not saying its better, the ds is much better if your a kid who believes brain age is good for you graphics are useless, sidescrollers are better than 3d, and u have an obsession w/ touching things

if u wanna play mario, u can do that on a psp too w/ an emulator;)

Ok, I'm not really into the PSP or DS. That is why I don't know as much as others about them. I only know what I have read in forums/blogs... But by twhat you say It does seem that the PSP is far superior to the DS. I'm specially intriged in how good does running win98 works on the PSP...

a psp is faster than my dad's old computer which runs 95, i dunno tho, it shud work. that was only a rumor w/ a few screenshots so dont hold me to it

the coolest project I've seen is a robot remote controlled by a PSP. It was so cool to see the image transmitted from the robot's camera in the PSP.

DS lite for sure; PSP is over-priced, over-hyped, and certainly most or all the games on it are pretty badly designed-- as in alot of them have alot better counterparts on the pc or ps2
DS has a total of 500+ games right now and can also play gameboy advance games(which there are thousands of), while PSP has only 183 current titles (source: G4)

If I got a PSP for free I'd take it though... and sell it on ebay.

I am not a fanboy, the last thing of Nintendo that I owned was a super nintendo... but I did do my research and I'm buying a DS Lite this week :D

Ninja-edit:
Also I mis-read the thread title, but anyways that's my short summary of ds vs psp XD -- also keep in mind DS can play movies as well, and many many of the games on the PSP are also offered on the DS :D

i dont get y ppl complain so much about the psp's array of games. you're rite, the ds has more, but keep in mind half of those are based on kids' movies. if you like fps or action or 3d, etc. psp's the way to go. sure, there's better versions on the ps2, but the psp is portable. i'll tell you thatsuper mario sunshine is way better than super mario 128 on the ds. so are metroid and drivng games. also, many of the ds games aren't even 3d and even more are just side-scrollers.

Pent

I guess many people don't agree with you seeing as how new super mario DS gets a higher rating and user rating then super mario sunshine on IGN...

Anyway...
if you like fps or action or 3d, etc. psp's the way to go
i don't see why these can't be examples, as they are on the DS:
fifa 2006
madden nfl 06/07
mario kart ds
marvel nemesis
mech assault
metroid prime hunters
need for speed most wanted/underground 2
king kong
spider-man 2
rayman
ultimate spider-man
x-men
splinter-cell chaos theory
superman returns
tomb raider legend (soon) :P

I agree, if you're going for a FPS or other super action type game, the PSP is the best choice. It's got a great screen, and much more power graphics + processing wise than the DS.

However, the DS is perfect for games like Brain Age, Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart, Animal Corssing, etc.

I just never got into any of the games for the PSP, but it's great for video, decent battery life. If only they supported more codecs, oh well.

Please, you can't honestly say that a equally made FPS is better on the DS than the PSP. I've heard Metroid is pretty cool, though.

I have to say having played them both at exibitions, I enjoy splinter cell on the ds over the psp.

hahaaa dude, all those u listed except first party games aare available for the psp, most of them are better on the psp too. splinter cell for portables sucks in general. metroid is not cool. you cant play a good fps w/ mediocre graphics. it just doesn't work very well. mike is right tho, the ds is better for kiddie games ;)

Pent

My point was that the ds has most of the fps/action games that are on the psp, so why bother?

There are plenty of (good) kid-oriented games on the DS, and there are plenty of game for all ages. Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart, and Brain Age will keep pretty much every age group occupied for hours.

who the fvck would pay for brain age??? it's math problems, mind puzzles and sudoku, i've played it and i'll admit it's pretty fun, but its not worth 30 bux or however much it costs. also, pent, MY point is that if it's available for both, it's usualmente mas bueno on the psp

I did, and I'm happy. It's a fun game, especially with other people, you get to see how superior you are to them, or inferior a lot of times. :P

I wouldn't pay $35 (regular price of a DS game) either, but they charge $20.

I won a DS in a competition and I'm pretty impressed with it, though I am one of those fools who bought Brain Age and like that too :)

Well there are always two sides to a coin, but at this juncture the DS definitely wins hands down. The people have spoken (via their wallets, no less) and it seems that having a dumbed down portable PS2 is just not their cup of tea - not many people want to waste time on loading times and a poorer battery life in comparison with quick games on the go? There are exceptions though ;)

Anyways, I'm still rootin' for the DSL.
