View Full Version : Spam Posts - Posting for Post Count

With the forums growing popularity we do seem to be getting a fair few posts that look like they are being made purely to increase a member's post count.

As stated in the rules (http://forums.coolest-gadgets.com/showthread.php?t=55) of the first contest, points will only be awarded for quality posts and this will be enforced. I won't explain the exact algorithm used as that would open it to abuse.

If you see a post that you think is spam please report it using the report button.

I do want these forums to be a very friendly and informal place but not at the expense of quality, I will be taking on some moderators over the next few days who will help enforce the few rules that we do have.

Thanks folks.

Posts made in the General Chat and Introductions forum are no longer included in a members post count.

I'm all on for welcoming new members but welcoming members that joined before you doesn't really seem right.

Ignore the above two posts, I hold my hand up I made a mistake. Sorry to those I upset.

We still need to do something about short spammy posts though so moderators will be taken on in the very near future and infractions will be issued to members who spam threads. If you want an IM conversation use an IM client not a forum.

I'm hoping all rules and moderators will be in place by the close of play today. I never expected this forum to take off as fast as it has so I am playing catch up a bit.

Thanks, sorry and all that.

That's good :). All the short posts are making my reading a lot harder.

I don't see what's wrong with post #2. Just exclude them for the contest, makes sense IMO.

Anyway, I'm sure things will balance out as things go.

Good to know that :)
Now iam waiting for mods to come here and start giving infractions to people who will start spamming this forums :)
Also i gave a small list of thread posts where all the bit spammy posts were posted ;)
Hope some are taken care of.

How many admins are working on this forums at this moment? As far as I know only Al has the permission to give other members warnings.

I still think that's a good idea...

Wow, I had no idea colleen was an admin.

That's Al's fault for not publicly annoucing her work, which includes skin design and maintenance, and other stuffs such as customising emoticons :p hehehe..... Just kidding,

yeah, I was surprised at first too, but I gradually got to know the reason too :)

And I guess the other admins are writers of CG main website...

Colleen is a pseudo admin, once the skin is totally complete she'll be getting knocked down a peg or two :).

Writers and moderators here are 2 different things, it just so happens that they overlap a bit at the moment.

"...at the moment"
And when is this going to change? Who will assume the responsability?

Times change but no plans for any just yet.

I'm going to close this thread off now as I want to forget about the first 2 posts in it :)

it depends, jacu,... writers come and go, so do mods as well. It is just coincidental that the people who are mod, e.g., Mike, is also a writer for CG. Of course, utimately, the site admin is still Al.
