Hi All,

Here is what I would love to be able to do:

1. I want to be able to have most of the main rooms in my house access a central server where all of my audio / video files will be stored.

2. I want to be able to have a remote system that can control the individual rooms - separately, or sync the output of all the systems to play the same song / media simultaneously.

Is this possible? If so, can it be Mac based?

Thanks

Hi triple7allstar,
Welcome to the forum...

1. In that case you can easily set up a central server somewhere in the house, make it as a gateway or something, and set up wireless connection, so that all the main rooms in the house can gain access to the central server.

2. Oh.... that is kind of tricky, but definitely do-able :) You'd probably need to "mod" it yourself or find someone who is selling such components. I have come across such modding before, but it sure does cost a wee bit.

Erm... for client-side, I'm sure you can have Mac-based. It's best to have the server side running linux. But, sure... it doesn't matter what OS you run (except Windows 98 and before... hehe)

Thanks Keith - Anyone have any specific ideas on remotes? The biggest question I have is how would I control the mac with a remote (I guess I could just get a bunch of Apple TV's - that would work right?)

I think its definitely possible but probably very very expensive :) You are a mac lover too? I don't even own a PC, never have. I am all mac all the way

Well I'm sure it's highly possible, however as previously mentioned it may be a tad bit pricey.

Also, how do you plan to play this media? If it's just going to be played on other PCs than you can set up a shared folder and do it using a router.

However, I'm not sure how you'd be able to remotely change songs on the other PCs. Perhaps with a VPN client this would be possible, a bit impractical but it would work.
