Spotted this artical (http://amdzone.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=6224)

I've received a report of an employee that was allegedly fired from Dell due to that employees concern over battery fires over a year ago. Apparently this employee had tried to stop shipments of laptops with battery issues, and now works at a competing computer company here in Austin. I am working to get a first hand account from this employee to verify this information. I know well how blatantly Dell will fire anyone, including this editor, (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2000/01/19/dell_fires_amd_zone_editor/) for any product issues whether you are to blame or not. I certainly hope they have not continued this practice so many years later.

Yeah this whole Dell battery issue is getting quite big. This article (http://computer.howstuffworks.com/ref/dell-battery-fire.htm) was on digg this morning and explains why the batteries are randomly catching fire or exploding.

I dont think dell is directly at fault there are many other vedors who use the sony batteries that have problems including apple..

Thing is the only reason dell steped to the plate is because they dropped the ball on so many other things so they are trying to look like the good guy by stepping up to the problem first if any one at all even does a recal

I thought that the batteries that dell were using were Sony batteries... It doesn't make sense to fire that guy... :/

If its true that they fired the guy yea its messed up but this is coming from a company that out sources its tech to another country (Witch i have no problem agaisnt if they knew what they were doing) That has ABSOLUTLY no idea how to think... least the people who answer thier phones. Dell only did this to the Home and Home office support not Small Bizz and higer departments because they know they would loose a major chunk of thier customers in a heart beat.

I have had to deal with home support in the past the major problem with them is the fact that they stick to a instruction step sheet to trouble shoot...IE

ASK Quation is answe is A go to page 4 if answer is B go to page 8 kind of thing... So when you give them a wiled card they are confused need to put you on hold and try to find a new data sheet on the result instead of being knowlagble on the problem and actualy trouble shoot it.

But any way back to what you asked yea Dell laptops that are popping a gasket are using Sony battery cell's labeld as dell batteries. Sony sells the battery cells to other companies as well including HP, Apple, and a few others. So dell is not the only company with these evil batteries that can proly make you loose a finger...

There was a HP one reported and a few apples that blew up... there was a some reports of the new laptops from apple catching fire but not because of the battery that was because they left a clear plastic film over vents they use in the factory to keeo dust out over ventelation on the system when shipped. Caused the system bottom to get EXTREEMLY hot and did catch fire when on surfaces like one persns rug they left it alone for 10 mins came back to a black hole on the rug.

Speaking of witch... lol check this out

A Florida man has leaped onto the Dell laptop explosion bandwagon by claiming his house was burnt to a crisp because a Dell laptop ignited his couch on fire. At about 5 a.m. Louis Minnear awoke to the smell of an electrical fire, after quickly surveying his house and finding nothing, he went back to bed. Forty-five minutes later he was awoken again, except this time to his couch on fire.

The story gets a little odder. Minnear quickly led his family out of the house and began making trips in an out saving what valuables he could before the flame got too big. Conveniently two of the family members—Minnear's oldest sons—were staying with other family at the time of the fire. The fire marshal ahs been called in for an investigation to find the true cause of the fire, but Minnear insists it was the Dell laptop that he conveniently knew was left on the couch sitting on papers.

The most notable belongings lost was a collection of 843 DVDs, according to the family. Holy damn, who knows exactly how many DVDs you own, especially if it is over 800. Something seems a little fishy about this story. These exploding Dell laptop batteries are becoming the new McDonalds hot coffee. – Travis Hudson
