Ok - my last software post was posted in tech - I think though maybe it should have been posted here

In the Gmail thread there was mentioned Gdrive - something I have never heard of so I went and looked it up

I'm a touch confused -

Is it an online hard drive that stores files - files that count against the space availabe on your gmail account?

And the archives... are they compressed like zip or rar or something?

I've heard of it but not used it. Basicly it uses your gmail space for file storage, I think it's fine in theory however I'd expect it would breech gmail usage TOS so you might be putting your gmail account at risk if you use it.

I read the gmail TOS and it didn't seem to infringe anything (but don't quote me! :P)

I'd much rather use box.net, though, it's more oriented toward files (and you can set it up somehow to act as a drive on your computer, too (at least on linux)) with 1GB space and whatnot :P (and if you register, make sure you register here (http://www.box.net/signup/invitation/tm8992@gmail.com), haha).

I tried it once, but it was to much work for me, I'm with Tim, using a dedicated file hosting service is much better.

Or I could just upload it to my own webspace. :D

Gdrive is something like an online hard drive and whatever you store is saved in your gmail account as an mail attachment. You can store any filetype but the maximum is 10 MB as gmail only allows 10 mb.

Well, not unless you are referring to GSpace (http://www.softsift.com/200607/gspace-034-gmail-file-space.html), a plugin of Firefox, yet gives you much flexible control over your storage space :)

Just 10 MB? I haven't used Gdrive as yet and it seems like I wouldn't be using it for serious file storage. It would not be enough space. The other dedicated file storage spaces are a lot better.

I use this software all the time. Yes, it only allows you to upload 10MB files at once, but still it is very usefull for storing documents, mp3s, etc.
Also, I've never had any problems with gmail because of this software.

hi Beatrix, GSpace (see my post above) allows you to upload more than 10MB file attachment using GMail as storage.

10 MB for one file because it saves as gmail attachment and only 10 mb is possible.

you can save files upto your inbox limit.

I tried to download Gspace, but the link doesn't seem to be working for me. Anyone with the same problem?

Think of your gmail as webspaceor a offsite HD, G Driver meerly allows you to mount the space as a drive letter on your system.

Theres also a free app that you can get from cisco system that lets you moutn a FTP as a Drive letter.
