Ok with my social meter getting moved here lets try putting this here... and it will probably get moved elsewhere ... lol - too many places things could fit ... but I'll learn *nods lots* slowly...

Google has opened up their Writely service - you no longer need an invite to use it -

Personally I already use their notebook for quick cut and paste things but this might not be too bad for longer items that I don't necessarily want to open up Word for or for those of you who don't own Word

Has anyone used the service?

In any event... Here's the link

I got an invite days before they opened it (what a waste) :P

But I love it. It's nice, haha, friendly, and fast.

There is also Zoho Writer (http://www.zohowriter.com/login.sas) if you are interested.

It is good that there is no need for an invite. Invites can become bothersome. Although I have really no need for another word processing program, since I find MS Word to work well, it is nice to have an online alternative. OpenOffice.org is also a good free alternative, in case you do not have MS Office.

Seems nice, but I don't see the point of it. I mean, Who doesn't have MS Office (or OpenOffice if you are opensource oriented...)???

the main reason for these type of things is that you can use word in any computer that is connected to the internet. Suppose you are going to an internet cafe and they havent installed / enabled the office products then you can edit it online.

But what happens to the fdoc that I create? Is it saved on my e-mail account or some other space on the web? Or do I have to save it on the local machine?

You can save it to Writely's servers, and if you want, download it as a Office, OO, PDF, HTML, or RTF.

There are plenty of options. :)
