Apple to recall 1.8 million notebook batteries

The models include

Apple iBook G4 and PowerBook G4

so is a lithium ion battery not safe anymore ?

it was only a matter of time... Sony deals a lot of battery cells to lots of companys lets see who follows dells footsteps

Wow. Who's next...HP? I heard a bunch of companies are banding together now to try to resolve the battery issue. Which is good, I would like to have my laptop on my lap without it burning.

i guess it will be sony and it is advicable to remove your batteries from all models just in case.

I'm one of those 1.8 million :( And you know what's the stupid thing... You have to request it via the website, but their form is broken as in it says the battery with that serial isn't affected, but the instructions say it is. So I got on the phone to them and they admitted the form is broken so you basically can't put in the request. Crap!

that sucks.... do they at least cross ship you a replacement or do they make you give up the battery till they ship u a new one... bec that would blow..

Yea a thats more like i remmber when dell did a recall once they wanted customers to send them out first..

Its probably some thing stupid too on the form..an easy fix just no one got around to it yet...

on this aspect fujitsu siemens has a great service ( nothing else ) , they came and they took away my laptop and then replaced the parts and sent me back the laptop 2 weeks later. I was satisfied with their service.

see that bugs me though if you have a working system and they need to send you a single part you can replace or even than wil lreplace the whole system why not cross ship so you dont have down time

I wouldnt blame Dell for this, Its sonys fault. They cost Dell alot of money for messing up! If i was Dell id be pulling my contract.

I wouldnt blame them either but i wouldnt congragulate them either... the only reason thy steped to the plate first was to try to show they are the better caring company because they have dropped the ball so many times in the past.

It seems like as a follow up Sony is going to recall all their lithum ion batteries. This has turned into a huge issue for Sony. I think they are going to have problems selling batteries to anyone in the future.
