Well in my absence I’ve noticed there has been a lot of posers and those claiming to the rights and work of things ive posted in the past. Unfortunately real life has been a little too busy pushing my around and keeping me busy.

So here is what I have to say… Screw it. Im not going to argue fight or call people out. Say what you will its not ♦worth the trouble or the time to spend arguing with someone over the internet.

Now let me move on…

What have I been up to? Oh boy I have lots and lots of DIY Goodies and photos to share.

Well the latest and greatest is out super sexy Mini Helix (drool) just came in a weeks ago and as you can see im going laser happy trying to push this thing to its limits. And so far its astounded me. Right now im doing raster tests on this sexy toy.

Here are some early tests on wood

This is a cover i lasered and cleaned a few mins ago I milled it from solid walnut on the other toy, The Shopbot, more about that later.

After this im going to start doing some vector cuts on acrylic. Being its a laser when it cuts the acrylic it makes an amazingly clean cut its like heat treating the edges it looks clear.

But any way here is a shot of the heart that is bleeding inside the top lid in the processes of being lasered. The thing with this machine is that the laser is not visible to the human eye…

Im going to follow up on this more in a bit I want to get more going on this machine. There is 3 other toys I want to show you guys ive been working on to produce all sorts of interactive art, sculpture, and just plain old gadgets that I wanted that never were made so I filled my own need.

The current setup preview CNC wise is
The Epilog Helix 60w Laser
Shopbot
Tormach PCNC
Torchmate

And we now have a Rapid prototype machine in the back but its currently offline since it is in need of a belt.

More to come

Any way that was a late night. So now let me introduce you to my other very good friend here..

http://fearstyle.com/oldStuff/shopbot.jpg

Say hello to the shopbot. Right now you can see the high speed spindle (right) and the router (left). Plans have it now that we will be replacing the router with possibly a HILTI Drill for lower speed drill passes. This way we can make a single gcode job that has a drill pass and a milling pass in one shot, no need to change tools.

On that bed at the time of this picture you can seepeices of walnut that I am using for a a test project that I have pictures over here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/fearstyle/sets/72157603471866689/

On this machine while it is only 3 axis ive been using it to do full u3d objects. Figuring out ways to register the object to the bed and be able to flip it multiple times to mill/cut each side to create a fully 3d object.

Now downstairs (I need to go take some pics) is the Tomarch PCNC, This beauitfull 3 Axis mill soon to have semi 4th axis cuts all my future circuit boards. Till now I have been having them printed over seas for my various projects. But this mill is so much more precise. There is a whole series of videos on YouTube over here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcrRgDWkO5o of various people using this machine to mill parts.
So now between these 3 machines ive talked about so far all most anything is possible.

The shopbot will cut shape and carve anything as soft as foam to as hard as aluminum.

While the Tormach will go as hard as titanium although every person who has milling anything they will avoid working with titanium like the plague.

And the laser allowing full etching and engraving and perfect clean cuts on acrylic and other material and even engraving circuit boards I make on the tormach instead of silk-screening them.

Now don’t get me wrong there are tons more tools I use here. Fully loaded wood shop, Metal Shop, Ceramics and Kilns, but these are def. by far the most high tech gadgets in the armory out of it all.

So my next post ill start walking trough some of my home made gadgets and even some of the planned gadgets ranging from PC Mods, Simple parts for my bike, custom paintball parts and mods, to interactive sculpture and art.

Stay tuned.

Well since i wrote that post a while back ive been doing lots of more tests. Among other things. To give you guys a idea how sick this is for acrylic this is the top faceplate cut on some scrap bin acrylic and etched using the laser. Note the clean edges on the cut.

Therese all sort of residue on this acrylic it is not from the laser but only because its some scrap. But to give a good idea of the precision this is the best pic i can show ATM ill post some super nice thicker cuts a lil later. :)

oh and FYI that panel is the top for the Aurora Open Source mixer here : working on a hybrid project right now involving it. http://www.auroramixer.com/index.html

I wanted to run a test on the file output in acrylic before i go milling aluminum for the top face since aluminum is expensive and the face im doing is larger since it does encompass more hardware than the original project.

oh the shop bot also does a clean finish on acrylic but it will be cloudy. But perfectly smooth. So imagine the big custom acrylic panels you can cut down to the 100th of a inch :)
