Big uh-oh for pottymouths! A judge has ruled that a man who yelled "Go f--- yourself!" at a cop can face disorderly conduct charges (http://www.nypost.com/news/regionalnews/curse_of_the_nypd_regionalnews_laura_italiano.htm) . The Post details the story of Ramon Morena, who had been arguing with a woman when a cop intervened. Morena yelled at the cop, so the cop gave him a summons that said the yelling "annoyed or alarmed the general public." Morena's lawyer tried to use the First Amendment and say only the cop was annoyed, not the public, but Criminal Court Judge Richard Weinberg disagreed, saying that he would not "condone the heaping of verbal abuse upon a police officer regardless of the circumstances." Word to the wise: Go with "Go fug yourself! (http://gofugyourself.typepad.com/)" But we imagine that even if Morena didn't curse when yelling at the cop, he'd be slapped with a summons - police don't like it when there are lots of bikes on the streets, so they probably don't liked being yelled at either.

We have to give it up to the Post for their first sentence in the story: "Screaming an anatomically impossible obscene suggestion at a police officer is against the law..." And we bet Morena's lawyer uses the Cheney defense (http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/06/24/cheney.leahy/) when the case goes back to the judge.

[EDIT]

What bugs me about this has to do with my other post in regards of the hysteria and over abuse of paranoid cops here in the city... But its ok we just still calmly use large words they normaly dont understand to abuse thier IQ in public.

In the UK you can easily be arrested for swearing/cussing at the police, personally I don't have a problem with that as it is a basic lack of respect which seems to be prevalent in the youth, laws like that were probably not needed years ago when the law had respect.

Teachers can't hit pupils now but pupils can jump on teachers backs and shout n swear at them, bring back corporal punishment in schools I say, then there would be no cussing at the police.

See i get that and i have respect for the law and thoes who enforce it... but see thats the thing here lately its become a total cock of shit (http://forums.coolest-gadgets.com/showthread.php?t=369).

Things here in NYC have gotton compleatly unrealistic...

If you were standing there cussing at Joe Nobody on the street, it's disorderly conduct. Why shouldn't it be if the person you are swearing at is a cop?
