Won't need that one once 2.0 rolls around, it's built in to Firefox itself. :)

Web Developer Toolbar! Can't live without (almost).
DOM Inspector
Bookmark Backup
Tabbrowser Preferences
NoScript (has kept me out of a lot of trouble and unnecessary datamining).
Googlebar Lite (why use the actual Google toolbar if you can avoid their datamining?)
Add N Edit Cookies (Always handy to bypass 'security'.)

No it's not SEO Quake (I've not heard of that one) when I'm back home at the weekend I'll check again.

Not to get very offtopic here, but does anyone know of an extension that I can simply highlight text (an URL that's not linked) and then right-click/etc. to goto that site? Basically, a replacement for "highlight, ctrl-c, click in URL box, ctrl-v, enter". I know -- I'm very lazy, but every time I have to copy/paste an unlinked URL, I think this kind of extension would be handy...

And dood I hate you seriously people who use Web Acellerator should be Dragged out into the street and SHOT

Edit

In version 1.0, web masters at least had a fighting chance as the GWA identified its requests with a “X-moz: prefetch” header (as prescribed by Mozilla). Sure, everyone in the world had to change their web applications to fit Google’s vision of a perfect world, but at least they could.

Not so for version 2.0 of this virus. It ships with a brand new mutation: The header is gone! There’s now no way to identify a pre-fetch from a regular request, which means that it’s no longer possible to block the GWA.

While one should always be cautious to ascribe to malice that which could be explained by ignorance, this appears like double up on evil with a smirk of dark lord. I can not fathom that Google would not merely repeat the mistake from round 1, but actually tweak the offering to increase the chances and scope of hurt?!

Someone, somewhere, please tell me this is not so. That we accidently got a bastard, mutant version of the GWA. That it’s not actually software that Google is allowing unknowing souls everywhere to download and rampage with.

This is bad.

I am extreemly pasionet about GWA because ive experienced and seen first hand the troubles it can cause... If google has had one major screw up its this product as a whole.

There is no other way for me to word it, its how i feel about the product and thoes who use it, specialy thoes who are aware of its potential to cause large problems for administrators.

GWA is designed to lessen the time it takes to load Web pages has returned after a four-month hiatus. But the second revision of the application, which is still in beta, does not address concerns with the first release. In order to speed up Web surfing, the tool automatically downloads URLs linked from the page a user is visiting. The concept is called "pre-fetching," and was also added as an optional feature in recent builds of Mozilla Firefox making the plugin pointless to even start with.... The processes it uses is flawed for example members of forums like CGF, when using the tool found themselves loading pages previously cached by other users - meaning they can view that user's account information and private messages.

To Quote Google...

When you use Google Web Accelerator, Google servers automatically receive and log your web requests. Web requests and data sent in encrypted form using an HTTPS connection will not go through Google. It is possible that a URL or other page information sent to Google may itself contain personal information… Google temporarily caches cookies from third party sites that are used in your web requests.

So let’s recap. Google…

* tracks all your TCP/IP packages
* reads all your email
* follows all your surfing
* owns all your cookies
* knows your postings to usenet from 1981
* keeps the drafts for future blog postings

GWA scours a page and prefetches the content behind each link. This gives the illusion of pages loading faster (since they’ve already been preloaded behind the scenes). Here’s the problem: Google is essentially clicking every link on the page including links like “delete this” or “cancel that.” And to make matters worse, Google ignores the Javascript confirmations. So, if you have a “Are you sure you want to delete this?” Javascript confirmation behind that “delete” link, Google ignores it and performs the action anyway. WHY?!?! because it can and cares less about what you want to actualy do...

This wouldn’t be much of a problem on the public web since it’s pretty tough to be destructive on public web pages, but web apps, with their admin links here and there, can be considerably damaged. If you have a web app, it might be worth returning a 403 when the HTTP_X_MOZ is set to “prefetch” header is sent. This will keep Web Accelerator from clicking destructive links, There is a good FAQ on Mozillas page about this here (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/netlib/Link_Prefetching_FAQ.html).

Good point about the potentially destructive link clicking, Case - I had not thought of that (I do not, nor ever have, used GWA -- actually, I didn't even know about it until just now). That sounds like something they need to fix.

Overall, the "benefit" of such a web accelerator sounds rather dubious IMO. I've not had dial-up for years, though, so maybe it actually makes a difference to those users, but I cannot imagine that it's all that big a difference since you can usually read a page before the dial-up could pre-download just a couple links.

Al,

Did you ever get a chance to look at whatever "SEOsomething" was?

Also, I'm curious what I do use the Web Developer (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/60/) extension, I find it useful but not "really" useful if you know what I mean. means? I guess I don't "really" get it ;)

Thanks,

Yes, it was SEOpen. Though my FF has just updated to 1.5.0.4 which it's not compatible with :rolleyes:

I mean that plugin (Web Developer (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/60/)) is useful but I don't use it as much as I'd expected

It seems like a lot of people also like the web developer :).

I also could live without:
Google Toolbar
Measuring thingy (forget what it's called but really handy!)
Colorzilla
IE Tab (not sure if that's the exact name but you can switch a tab into IE if you want)
ScreenGrab

Case
09-16-2006, 05:25 PM
I dont like colorzilla and yes its IE Tab theres a few diffrent ones but IE Tab is my fav because you can make a list of IE only websites like windows update and open a IE tab with it automaticaly in firefox with out me havign to tell it too...

But i think that every one should seriously get Adblock and Adblock Filterset.G Updater 98% of all advertisements dont even load any more regardless of where they are on the website...

What's wrong with seeing adverts? I don't like sites that are overrun by ads but in moderation they are absolutely fine IMO.

NB I may be a bit on the biased side as web adverts do pay for my gadgets :)

I actually like well-done ads. The sites with pop-unders, blinking banners, and other obnoxious stuff don't get my attention, but I frequently find the AdSense ads interesting on all sorts of pages. I've learned of a lot of sites, programs, and other stuff via the ads which I would never have even thought about had I not seen them.

BTW, Al, SEOpen 0.8 works with the latest 1.5.0.7 FF - I just installed it and it's pretty cool IMO.
