My daughter is currently 150 miles away staying with her grand mother whilst I'm selling my house and relocating (I wanted her to start school at the beginning of term as I reckon it's easier to make friends then).
I've just had a call from her new school asking why she wasn't in school this morning. Quickly called her grand mother up to be told she left her in the playground but would walk (well run with a waddle) round to check.

I called the school back, went through to the answering machine and left a message saying what her gran had told me. School then called me back saying don't worry she was "probably" late and missed the register, to this I obviously asked them to double check.

Five anxious minutes later I got a call back saying she missed register as she'd gone off with one of her friends to fill her water bottle (without asking).

Now that my stomach has settled I'm relieved but not happy with the school calling without first double checking. I am pleased that they called but geez it could have been handled a lot better IMO.

Oh ive been scared to death as a parent a few times i can relate to the terror you felt without being able to do anything about it. :o

The school buses in the beginning of the year have always placed the kids on the wrong buses so i get really uptight till thats worked out. :p

Just think of all the glorious years ahead of worry LOL. At times like that, i think, what have i done? I created this little person i get to worry about for the rest of my life!! lol.

phew.... luckily for that. Missing the registrar could possibly mean missing the entire school calendar. I can see as parents it can be quite heart-pounding at times

I had all sorts of nightmare scenarios going through my head, being a parent brings a great deal of pleasure and worry.

I've never taken a bus to school, always been driven by my parents or in a carpool. I prefer it that way, busses are uncomfortable! :P

You're a lucky chap.... you've to be fortunate and appreciative that you parents do fetch you to school....

They had no other choice, my school didn't have any busses. :P

Being a parent sounds like a lot of work, worries, and more work. :P

I hear in the UK they dont offer district transportation to the kids to get to school. Is this correct?

There are some school buses but generally not. I'm always one fo wlaking or cycling anyway :).

The new school is right next to a swimming baths so I'm planning on dropping Ali off then going for a quick dip every day.

Oh my i can just imagine how you must have felt. Especially being so far away. Yes it would have only taken a minute i would think to double check real quick, before the paniced you. Glad to see she was fine.
