View Full Version : Opinions on Skype
I was going to get a separate telephone line purely for business, but as I hardly ever need to make or receive any calls it seems an unnecessary expense so as an alternative I was going to use Skype. Has anybody had much experience with Skype (good or bad)?

I have not used but i keep hearing from telemarketers that use it that it cuts out or fades. Again that's hearsay.

I used to use it, and it cut out on me frequently. It also slowed down my computer significantly. That said, it was an older computer at the time. Maybe they've improved the program since I last used it.

Al, if you are thinking of using Skype, try using the following:
- voipstunt
- voipbuster
- voipcheap
Most destinations are free.
I use the free version of skype once in a while (I like calling my home phone from it, hahaha).
Whenever I've used it, it's been clear - with no problems.

Can I get my own phone number with those? What I like about Skype is I can get a US and UK number that people can call nomally.

From what I've read, you need to open a dedicated port on your router for it and it works much better. Something about it not needing to run in "supernode" mode reduces the glitches/lag quite a bit.

I've been using Skype for quite sometime with and it works just fine. Very clear audio quality. However the charge is I think a bit higher than other VOIPs. But overall performance is good.

I am using VoipStunt now. There are quite a lot of features now but I seldom use other features such as making a phone call through VoipStunt using your house phone or mobile phone.
Whenever you top up, you are given free 120 days to call landlines. Even after 120 days ,the charges are inexpensive. I live in UK and the service is clear.
I configured my Nokia to use SIP settings and I don't even need to switch on my computer in order to sign in.
