A smoke bomb is a bomb which only produces smoke
here are the links I found to make your own smoke bomb

Another disclamer : Please handle with care and people might think you are a terrorist so please dont have beard if you wanna use this.

LOL that's the stuff I used to build with my mates in Holland. Until one blew up his finger tips.
This reminds of the Digg story about the kid who built that portable rocket launcher:
http://www.digg.com/gadgets/Kid_builds_homemade_rocket_launcher (http://www.digg.com/gadgets/Kid_builds_homemade_rocket_launcher.).
So true about the terrorist comment - you proably can't get away with innocent detonation of random stuff anymore.

This actually produces some flame, so no setting off in dry grass or leaves.
And if i were you, i wouldn't try to do this in a non-ventilated room - although unlikely, there is still a chance of the bomb setting off.

Isnt this a bit dangerous? like poisonous gas?
If it isnt, then meh..

It's not like poisonous gas but it's still gas so you can suffocate if inhaled too much..
Johan

It wouldn't be as much fun if there wasn't an element of danger involved.

Cool, another fun DIY bomb is the flaming tennis ball. It's not very dangerous but it's really cool. It takes quite a while to make though, maybe I'll post a guide sometime.

Why are we bent on causing harm to each other, i would save we waste 50% of our time thinking of was to harm one another, otherwise cool project.
Actualy smoke bombs are easy... find me a NON YROTECHNIC or safe COLD BURNING smoke bomb DIY :)
See i play paintball and lots of places will not let you use hot burning smoke because its a major fire hazzard

There are some dry ice based bombs, just can't remember where i saw them.

That wont work think safty and think insurence on a feild of 6000 players some oens bound to pick it up and throw it back...
Non pyrotechnic grenades or smoke bombs are usualy powder based and c02 powered... has to be safe to handle at all times

What i meant by bombs was smoke bombs. I remember using a couple of them. You only needed to light one. The flame would dissappear after about a second, and after another second the smoke bomb would start releasing huge ammounts of white smoke.
that is really amazing, i never heard of this things before, this forum rocks

dry ice can not be handeld bare hands hence why the problem... anything with a flame can get hot and can cause a fire.

Ok heres what im talkin about.. I once saw a DIY Tutorial to make these on a paintball forum but the forum no longer exists. Essentialy what happens is simple.. there are FX companies that make a powder that when made airbourn it looks EXACTLY like smoke and they can make it any color. Now what happens use a 12g cartridge the pin is pull and allows the spoon to become free when thrown the spoon pops off allowing a spring to become free to expand pushing the 12gram into a piercer this will force all the powder based solution out of its chambers and into the air.
This way there is no flame and no material that cant be handeld with bare hands. making it much safer.
http://www.evhill.com/products/products.htm
And this is why hot burning smoke is BAD and what can go wrong http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1774399648040485199&q=Paintball
Now heres the problem with powder... least with creating your own... major inhalation risk.. I worked through about 20 diffrent compounds and couldn't find a single MSDS sheet for a powder that wouldnt have an inhalation risk.
Its FAR safer to use a commercially made smoke. or wait for me to complete my work on a baffled grenade like this one.
Baffled smoke (commercial) (http://www.less-lethal.com/pdf_specs/5210B%20Rev%20A%20Baffled%20Pyro%20Smoke.pdf)
But mine will use a simple buildable and replaceable striker and using these (http://www.forestry-suppliers.com/product_pages/View_Catalog_Page.asp?mi=6206) This will be a lot more safe than other hot burning smoke grenades BUT it still wont be allowed by all paintball fields.
here is the smoke powder i speak of.

hey does annyone know if you can mix these on a local park barbeque (on a saucepan?) or will it just burn too quick etc cause you can't make it hotter/cooler? Also, do you really NEED to mix it until its BROWN or can you mix it till its a light yellow (all mixed together)? Thanks
kadhal
09-09-2006, 11:16 AM
I dont think it will work on a barbecue because it is too close to the flame and it might ignite the mix. You need an electric stove and a pan.
It will work if it is light yellow but it is not mixed fully so it is not 100% so the smoke would also not be 100%.

09-09-2006, 11:19 AM
Thanks for the reply, also the bbq is one of those electric ones, but doesnt have a dial to adjust the heat, so I would have to lift the pan up a bit wouldnt i? Do you think this would work? THanks
kadhal
09-09-2006, 11:39 AM
yeah it will work and you dont have to lift the pan at all bcoz most pans are designed to displace the heat uniformly but make sure you do it outside.

09-09-2006, 11:42 AM
Thanks for that, yep its outdoors.
Thanks again for all the help.
you all should remember that unless on your own private property that has no direct sight to other peoples property you need to get the firedepartments permission to set off any smoke effects at all in the states and they will fine you heavily if you get cought. Basicaly they dont want false alarms when some one calls in a fire from seeing smoke

have you ever built a potato gun? My husband used to build these all the time. Used to shoot pototoes in an empty field. They went pretty far to.
Yea but not for potatos... Make mortors for paintballl same princeable but diffrent design to meet feild regulations

Potato guns are a lot of fun. In back of the printing plant where I used to work, we shot a spud all the way over the next building. Never did find out if it hit anything or not.

Why not try making one of those spud launchers. I saw one working which fired a potato over 300 metres

someone should try this whilst wearing robes and shouting:
"Death to the Infidel!"
Anyone fancy it?

i found a vid on metacafe.com
it says if you use baking soada it will slow combustion rate, also you can use a
organic powder dye(blue and red work best but i prefer purple) the darker the beter:cool:
