this is not as much of a Tecthing as much as a ANTI tech post...

It's PARK(ing) Day (http://www.rebargroup.org/projects/parkingday/parkingday.html) from the Rebar group! (http://www.rebargroup.org/) They set up a veritable oasis at a West 30th Street and Eighth Avenue parking spot. Our friend at Transportation Alternative sent us this picture - note the high production value: Bench, trees, and three people! I'm not sure if the space is still there (we heard it would be up until noon or 2PM), so if you work near there, swing by and let us know but i think im one of the few people from NYC here.

More: In January, Rebar did the parking squat thing in San Francisco; Transportation Alternatives did one in October 2005 (http://www.transalt.org/e-bulletin/2005/Nov/bedford_photoessay.html); and Streetsblog has some more insights (http://www.streetsblog.org/2006/09/21/parking-it-in-midtown/).

wow, this is a great form of advertising! they should put a sign up somewhere to say what it is for.

Wow, I would totally do that. I would actually really like to see one of those parking lot oasis-es pop up in my campus parking lot...now that would get some attention.

Haha, thanks for the tip, Case. If you see something in the news about some crazy kids setting up a lawn in a parking lot, you will know that you're the one behind it ;)

I would mow it with a push-mower to go with the anti-tech feel.
