Me and my friend decided to do some treasure hunting on the weekends for fun and maybe more ( I am not expecting to find any titanic but a WW2 pellet would do just fine ).

I am looking for state of the art GPS and a metal detector. It would be great if anyone could tell me any other gadgets i might need.

map, advanced communication system, i.e. walkie-talkie (blue-tooth will be great, but it will only be 10m, thus, no point)

kadhal, I've always wanted to try that at the beaches here, but never had the chance. Have you gone before? Do you really find a lot of things when you go? Sounds very cool. Tell us how it goes.

Doing the beach on a weekday after a hot weekend on a beach would be a good move. You never know what you're going to find. Always wondered how successful people are when treasure hunting.

my friend is a big treasure hunter and he has found some coins dating back to 17th century. The only thing I ever found were pellets from WW2. A GPS is a must have for professional treasure hunters. I also use Google maps (http://www.google.com/maps?ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tab=wl&q=) to scan the terrain.

That's not bad too.
For some reasons, those pellets from WW2 could be priceless :)

I have always wanted to find an old coin. Don't care if it doesn't have any value. Just like the idea of finding my own old coin! :)

Oh, see? I was thinking something more along the line of a giant diamond ring that I could sell for thousands. :p

diamond are actually carbon in covalence compound form....
hehehe, why not just settle for some carbon (e.g., soots)... but on second thought they don't sell as much :P

Don't forget the low-gadget requirements as well.

Need something for sifting through that dirt and sand, a shovel etc etc :)
