According to witnesses, the notebook began to emit smoke, at which point the clearly asbestos-fingered owner pulled out the smoking power cell and punted it outside into his firm's parking lot. Just in time: the battery caught fire almost immediately

what the hell? That's insane! They should do a recall if their laptops are doing that, surely.

I didn't think HP laptops were worth burning your hands over ;)

Don't get me wrong, I have an HP laptop...but seriously, I prefer not sustaining injuries. Hmm, I guess I should check to make sure my battery hasn't been recalled.

Maybe the laptop itself isn't worth it, but the thousand buck it would cost to replace it is would be worth a burn or two to me.

I can't figure out why this would happen, though. Is this normal? (I'm guess no... :) )

the battery cells from sony have a flaw that causes them to overheat and when batteries get to hot BOOM incenidary device

Don't they all use the same OEM parts manufacturer for batteries. Maybe it's time to start constructing the casing out of flame retardant material...
