This is a very nice tutorial and for thoes needing cheap NAS (http://www.automatedhome.co.uk/article1759.html) this might be the right thing. For me it wont suite my needs but if you got a spare hard drive available? Drop it in and go. Lots of pics and screen grabs as we build & test a simple home NAS.


Our tests show it costs just $32 to run for a year 24/7, compared to a PC at around $275!

Was quoting the artical...just left out the BBCode :) They ran a power consumption comparison vs setting up a old Nix based PC vs this... if you only need a single drive no redundency this can work a lot better... But for me personaly id go for the PC way because you can all ways add lots more drives.
