Here is a bit of an odd one for you. Google, of all companies, is calling for a more efficient power supply standard (http://news.com.com/Google+to+push+for+more+electrical+efficiency+in+P Cs/2100-1003_3-6119506.html?tag=nefd.top). Don’t get me wrong, I like the idea, I guess I just didn’t expect it to be a Google backed initiative. Then again, they have a server farm that is probably bigger than NASA’s, why shouldn’t it be them talking about efficient PSUs.

The Google plan calls for a shift from multivoltage power supplies to a single 12-volt standard. Although voltage conversion would still take place on the PC motherboard, the simpler design of the new power supply would make it easier to achieve higher.

lol... yeah. When you think about it it makes a lot of sense. I don't even want to think about the amount of power Google sucks up. A more efficient power supply standard would probably really cut costs for a company that uses that much power.
