Since I don't get Sci-Fi channel, I've missed all of the new BSG episodes. Well, season one finally bubbled-up in my Netflix queue and all I can say is WOW! :D

I can't get into all of the details that make it a great show, and if you watch the extra materials on the last disc of season one you'll hear about it. However, just suffice to say that this show is an awesome mix of action, drama, suspense, creative environments, unique filming techniques, and great actors.

The original BSG that I watched as a kid was 100% cheezy compared to the new series. The new ones are serious, gritty, and very adult oriented. The creator (Ron Moore) worked on Star Trek for 10 years and knew exactly what he wanted to change. He took a more documentary approach to filming it so that you're right in the middle of things all the time instead of watching from afar as in ST. Also, he wrote an excellent drama that just happens to be set in space, so it does not cater just to sci-fi techies, but everyone (assuming you can get your wife to put-aside her preconceptions that it's a "space show").

To get the full experience, you want to rent:
Miniseries->Season 1->Season 2-> Season 2.5

Season 3 is preparing to launch within the next week, so they are running a "Catch-up" show which attempts to bring new viewers up to speed. This is available on USA network, Sci-Fi, free download from iTunes, and other places. However, I would STRONGLY recommend actually watching the preceeding episodes before getting into season 3 rather than "catching-up". I just finished S2 disc 2 last night and I cannot wait for the next disc!

Hiya Mike !

I started watching the show a few months ago as well and I was similarly blown away! :) The new show completely destroys your preconceptions of it, doesn't it? I've seen the Mini-series and Season 1. I'm being very stoic and passing Season 2 in HMV everytime I go music shopping! :)

I want to save it for Xmas, as Season 3 won't officially land in the UK until the New Year. It'll tide me over until then (I hope)!

I love the new BSG. The cast is really good and i love that they made starbuck a female in the new version. The doctor and the blond are my favorites to watch as im trying to figure out why they have such a link together. Im starting to believe he is one of them!

Have you seen the webisodes on the sci fi website? They are really good!

I've got the URL for the webisodes, but since I'm still on season 2.0, I'm avoiding watching them until I get done with 2.5 ;)

Sounds too tempting! Pah * have to be strong * Love the Adama/Roslin interplay. And Boomer has to be one of my faves.

Oh yeah its little snippets of what happens at the end of season two. So if you are not there yet dont watch it. Supposedly these webisodes are not included in the new season so its a nice little bonus. Ive watched them and the writing and story still looks sharp and fresh. Im more excited now after seeing them.

I just finished Season 2's last disc last night.

They added another character who I love to hate (the Admiral). Grrrr she makes me mad just thinking about how she's ruining things ;) Prior to the admiral, the only person I didn't really like was the XO's drunk wife ("didn't like" means the character and how you're supposed to not like her). This admiral looks like she'll be taking things to a new high as far as screwing-up Adama's life and command.

S2.5 disc 1 should be in my mailbox when I get home tonight :D

Don't worry... ;) Yeah, I don't like XO's wife either... as for the Admiral, you will like the outcome... :D

Did you know the orginal Apollo "richard hatch" is playing the convict in the new series, that almost won the election?

I hated the mini-series. Didn't want to bother with it after that. Then picked it up again half way through season one and loved it. I'm stoked for tonight, too bad I have to work and depend on the DVR so I can watch it when I get home :(

LOL i also half watched the mini-series and then my husband kept watching it and trying to make me watch it. I was intrigued with the amazon blond and the doctor so i made him start from the beginning to so could figure out the relationship. I have to say the show does grow on you. The actors are good and the story is compelling.

Yeah, the mini-series was pretty much 100% "background" and IMO, not technically necessary if someone is familiar with the BSG history at all. It was in S1 that I really started getting hooked.

I just ordered all of the DVD sets from Amazon yesterday. It's not often I spend money on DVDs, let alone TV DVDs, but these are worth it IMHO ;)

Oh, and regarding Richard Hatch: when I first saw the name in the beginning credits of one show, I thought of Richard Hatch from season one of Survivor (the gay guy who has a problem paying his taxes (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0118051hatch1.html) on the $1M winnings). Then, when watching it, I realized it's a completely different Hatch (http://www.richardhatch.com/battlestar_galactica/) :D
