Drowsy Driving Prevented and Sleep Apnea Countered
Have you ever gotten drowsy while driving and, no matter what you try, have those little episodes when you fall asleep for a split second? This is called microsleep and accounts for a significant number of traffic fatalities. We have invented a device that you can wear on the leg while you are driving that will keep you awake and prevents microsleep. Although it is not intended to keep you awake for extended periods of time (no one should go without sleep for excessive periods), the Cold Diffusion Fatigue Fighter will help you make it safely to the next rest stop and might just save your life!
Tested at a major midwest university, we found (via brain wave tomography - with results published at the 2009 GVSETS Symposium) that the Cold Diffusion Fatigue Fighter increases beta brain waves in both hemishpheres. Another advantage, as the beta wave increase indicates, is increased alertness. So if you are fatigued and driving at night, 1/4 of a second better reaction time might just be another lifesaver!
This is not just for drowsy drivers. Students up late and studying for exams would be more alert and could get another hour of study in for that important test. This is just now available for commercial sale and would make a great gift for Christmas for anyone who drives or studies! The 2009 GVSETS paper is available upon request.
