Soda bottle rockets

I know that this isn't new and they've been doing this for years, but...

My daughter is doing those soda bottle rockets for science in a couple weeks, and the person who's rocket goes furthest wins a prize. Any suggestions on building a foolproof soda bottle rocket? I have no clue how...

Thanks!

Just make sure its perfectly level at take-off. My science teacher in high school got in much trouble when showing us this experiment out side - it went through a class window

Ooh, I won't be there for the launch, but I'll tell my daughter that. I can only help with the design and building process.

I thought, like, all kids did this in school at some point. No parents out there with experience that can give me advice?

Good link, btw, tater. Thanks!

Soda bottle launcher that is cheap and quality!

Check it out on ebay under "soda bottle rocket launcher". No o-rings or high tech parts to break. Everything comes together in a kit and all you have to do is build and design rockets from 2 liter bottles. I use this with my middle school students and they love it! You'll probably make it a hobby of your own with your kids after you get into it. Don't waste time trying to build some of these huge contraptions (that probably don't work) or these cheap things that hardly send a bottle anywhere. This launcher will hold 120psi or more and send bottles hundreds of feet into the air!

Well you could try using a cork with a tube from an air pump injected inside the cork to allow air to enter the bottle.. Make sure you fill the bottle with a liquid... The pressure will build up inside the bottle, rocketing the bottle... I think this is better than using chemical reactions and "Mentos candy"..
