StealthSwitch
I don't know if this has ever been mentioned here before, but I thought I'd send the link just in case. Apparently, this baby will not only kill your window at the touch of a button (with your foot!), it'll bring up the window of your choice. Perfect for screwing off when the boss is around. Tempting for Christmas... no wonder they're out of stock.

Pretty cool idea, but with the newer keyboards out with extra quick keys, it's not so hard to do something similar. I've been using pre-programmed quick keys for that purpose. I simply hit one of my quick keys and it does whatever I program it to do. Closing windows isn't that hard either, just program a key to do a alt-F4 and whatever window is open closes right away.

It doesn't just minimize them or close them. It takes them off the toolbar completly, mutes the sound, and you can press it again to get everything to pop back up again.

It is not a problem in my current employment. (Self-Employeed so the boss always knows what I am looking at), but I can think of times in the past where that would have been amazingly useful.
Although some bosses might be monitoring what you are doing in other ways, to limit the effectiveness of this. I used to have some co-workers who were overly nosy, and would always have to walk around my desk and peak at my screen. Would be perfect for those and not as suspicious as the fevered alt-tab I would do. |
