Roomba

Does anyone have the vacuum robot Roomba? I have been seriously looking at them lately, as they seem really cool. Just looking for some real world testimonials first though.

Yeah a few of us here do, mine is called Dexter

They don't totally replace a normal vacuum but are great for keeping on top of dirt without any effort.

yea id agree they are not as effecient or powerfull as a normal vacume so it just really good for light cleaning so you dont have to clean as often.

The Shopvac version sounds intresting though id like to see how well it performs

I don't think that I'd use one. My house is layed out (not intentionally) so that is is easy to vacuum. It doesn't become much of a chore so I do it every few days to clean up. I'm sure the Roomba is nice, its just I personally wouldn't have the need for it.

I always wondered if these really worked? Have you seen the ones that wash you kithen floors. Now I would love one of those. I want to say they are made by the same company but I'm not for sure.

Has anyone used the scooba one that scrubs the floors? I would love to set that up in my kitchen area.

Is it okay for a first timer to go with the most basic model or are there some features that are considered extremely useful?

I dont know if I am ready to get one of those yet, I am always afraid that it might go haywire and freak out while I am using it.

It is too pricy to test it out still... they need to do a better job of going around the country and show how it works.

Are they not called Robomops? I think they only pick up dust and debris, they don't 'wipe' the floor clean

I'd definitely be interested to try a Roomba, especially now that I have wood floors, but the pricetag on them is ridiculous. From a technical standpoint, they're dead-simple and there's no reason they should be $200+. If Roomba got a decent model (meaning one that self recharges/etc.) down to the $75 range, they'd sell like hotcakes!
